Huge cannabis farm uncovered in Ashington as 80 plants seized by police

More than 80 cannabis plants have been seized after being discovered inside a home in Ashington.

Neighbours on Warren Court in the Northumberland town had reported their concerns to the police and officers found the cannabis farm in progress on May 13.

The farm was housing more than 80 plants in the early stages of growth. There were also two further rooms fully kitted out ready to grow the crop.

Police officers have now dismantled the farm and removed supplies that could have been used to cultivate the crops further.

Those responsible illegally bypassed the electricity which can have potentially fatal consequences for surrounding neighbours.

Inquiries remain ongoing to identify those responsible and Sergeant Peter Mcall has said the work to stamp out drugs in the area will continue.

Sgt Mcall said: “I want to thank the local residents once again for coming together and working with us to keep the community safe.

“By reporting concerns and sharing intelligence with police we can continue the crackdown on drug use and supply in the area and ensure those responsible are held accountable for their criminality.

“This type of work will continue and our stance on drugs in the communities we serve will remain strong – it will not be tolerated and if you are involved you will receive a knock at your door from us.”

Anyone with information about suspected drug dealing is asked to contact police via their website.

Alternatively you can report it anonymously by calling the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
