Huge cannabis factory with more than 500 plants found hidden inside disused shoe shop

A huge cannabis farm has been found inside a former shoe shop.

Police were called to the former Kidderminster Footwear building at Irwell Mill on Bacup Road in Waterfoot, near Bury, on Tuesday morning (July 13).

It followed concerns raised by a member of the public.

When officers arrived at the scene at 9.40am two men were seen 'running off from the premises', LancsLive reports.

More than 500 'mature' cannabis plants were found growing inside the building which is now abandoned.

Pictures show two police cars and a van at the scene while officers were also seen removing the drugs.

No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.

A Lancashire Police spokesperson said: "We were contacted by a concerned member of the public yesterday (Tuesday 13 July) at around 9:40am, reporting a possible cannabis set up at a disused factory on Bacup Road, Rossendale.

"Officers attended and saw two men running off from the premises.

"A search revealed an estimated 500 mature plants."
