Huge bricks of cocaine wash up on Florida beach in Hurricane Dorian devastation

Bricks of cocaine have washed ashore in the USA amid the turmoil caused by Hurricane Dorian.

Police in Melbourne, Florida, were alerted by beach-goers near Paradise Beach Park who found a tightly wrapped package with a word 'DIAMANT' written on top.

A police spokeswoman said the officer described the package as something 'wrapped in a way that was consistent with narcotics'.

It was tested and confirmed to be a kilo of cocaine, said the spokeswoman, adding that it will be destroyed, reported NBC News.

The shocking discovery came days after a duffel bag filled with 15 bricks of Class A substances washed ashore on the nearby Cocoa Beach, said Cocoa Beach police Sgt Manny Hernandez said.

The bag has been handed over to the US Custom and Border Protestion and an investigation is currently underway, said the police.

Sgt Hernandez added that one kilo of cocaine is estimated to be worth $20,000 to $30,000 (£16,316 to £24,474).

Dorian, still a strong Category 2 hurricane, began lashing the east coast of central Florida Tuesday night, prompting hurricane warnings for coastal Florida areas as well as warnings in Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina.

The powerful storm killed at least 20 people in the Bahamas before it moved towards the US coast.
