Huge brawl breaks out on Dublin road after Bohemians and Shamrock Rovers derby

A huge street fight broke out on Saturday after the Bohemians and Shamrock Rovers clash at Dalymount Park.

Dozens of hooligans were involved in the brawl on Phibsborough Road at 5pm with traffic brought to a standstill.

A series of punches were thrown in the melee that spilled onto the pavement and between parked cars.

The ugly incident was condemned by local TD Gary Gannon who tweeted: "Disgraceful scenes happening in Phibsborough at the minute.

"A full on riot [took] place between a horde of grown men under the guise of being football supporters.

"I’m not sure what procedures were in place but no Gardai were present outside the firestation just now while gangs of thugs fought in the middle of the street.

"Both Bohs & Rovers have made a huge contribution to the League of Ireland the past few years and these men aren’t supporters and do nothing to add to the league or what should be a great sporting occasion. Gobs***es."

A statement from Gardai read: "Gardai are investigating a public order incident that occurred in the Phibsoboro area of Dublin 7 on 15/2/20 at approximately 5pm.

"It is reported that an altercation occurred between a large group of people. Members of the Garda Public Order Unit attended the scene.

"Gardaí have obtained CCTV footage and are following a definite line of enquiry. Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information to contact Mountjoy Garda Station on 01 666 8602.

"No arrests have been made. Investigations are ongoing."

The traditionally heated fixture was moved from Friday to Saturday on advice from Gardai - and the Hoops ran out 1-0 winners thanks to a late Aaron Greene goal.
