A huge blaze broke out in an Avonmouth car recycling plant today (Saturday, May 2).

Several shipping containers went up in flames during the incident at 10:14am.

Residents were warned to keep their windows and doors shut as smoke billowed out across the neighbourhood.

Crews from Avonmouth extinguished the fire by 11am.

An Avon Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "There was a fire at a car recycling plant.

"Crews used four breathing apparatus and two high pressured hose reels.

"The cause of the fire has been reported as accidental."
