Huge birds of prey strike at window trying to reach small dogs inside flat

A dog owner captured the terrifying moment two huge condors landed at the window of her flat and attempted to get to her three French poodles inside.

It's thought the South American Andean Condors were going hungry with less food to scavenge during lockdown and may have been on the look out for something to eat.

The intimidating birds can be seen landing on the ledge of the apartment as the dogs bark at them from the other side of the glass.

As the poodles run up and down, the birds are trained on them, following the pups along the windowsill.

When one of the dogs shows no fear to jump on to ledge and put its paws against the glass, one of the condors pecks at the glass in a failed attempt to get to it.

The footage is thought to have been shot in Chile and local media reported the dogs remained completely unharmed as the windows were closed at the time.

South American Andean Condors (Vultur gryphus) are the largest flying birds in the world in terms of combined measurements of weight and wingspan, which can stretch to 3.3 metres.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature classifies them as 'near threatened' in their red list.

They have white feathers around black plumage and have a distinctive bald head which can change colour depending on its emotional state.

The birds are scavengers which often clear up food dumped by humans, and it was reported they may be hungry and struggling to survive in the city during the lockdown.

In the UK, deer have also been pictured taking over deserted streets in East London during the pandemic.

The herd of about 10 deer were seen to be grazing and resting on an area of grass in front of a row of houses as the residents on the streets obeyed the government's lockdown rules.
