'Huge bang shakes the village' as car smashes into wall outside supermarket

A wall outside a village supermarket has been destroyed after a car smashed into it.

Rubble was strewn across the pavement in Darwen Road, Bromley Cross, after a blue Mazda drove into the wall of the Sainsbury's Local car park last night (June 16).

The front of the car has been badly damaged, with the bonnet crumpled and the headlight on the passenger side smashed.

According to a witness, the collision happened just before 10pm last night.

Twitter account 'ianeditz' wrote: "A huge bang has just shook the village. Opened our front door to see everyone else doing the same.

"The stone was strewn all over the road.

"Within 5 minutes me and a bunch of neighbours descended with rubble buckets and brushes and tidied it all away.

"Anyway, how's your Wednesday?"

The witness claimed that the driver of the car, a woman, was 'shaken up' but unharmed.

Manchester Evening News has contacted the North West Ambulance Service for comment.

As of this morning (June 17) the damaged car was still in the car park and some rubble was still on the pavement.
