Huge air rifle found in car after driver spots officers and tries to scarper

An air rifle was found by police after a driver spotted officers and tried to drive away.

The man behind the wheel of the Honda Civic saw a police car in his rear view mirror - before he tried to escape.

Police chased the car down and seized it in Leigh.

An air rifle was found inside the car in a black case.

The driver tried to make off from police (GMP)

Police are now making enquiries regarding the driver, the car and the rifle, said officers on Monday morning.

Greater Manchester Traffic Police said in a tweet: "This Honda Civic made off from a divisional patrol in Leigh.

"He didn't fancy his chances when he saw ME18's BMW in his rear view mirror.

"The Civic was seized and enquiries are ongoing regarding the driver, vehicle and air rifle found inside in car."
