Huge 9ft shark spotted off UK coast as snorkeler swims within inches of it

A huge 9ft shark was spotted swimming off the UK coast as a snorkeler got up close and personal to the ocean beauty.

Charles Hood, who offers 'snorkeling with sharks' experiences off Penzance spotted the creature during a trip on Friday, August 23.

In a post on his  Blue Sharks Cornwall Facebook page , he said: "Today we had our biggest blue ever, estimated at around nine feet - a real beauty.

"Plus a really scarred seven footer and loads of smaller ones including a baby around 1 foot in length and 30 or more common dolphins all at the same time! Video to follow. Quick grab of the big girl."

Male blue sharks are usually between 6 to 9.3ft long and females are usually bigger, sometimes reaching 10.8ft, reports Cornwall Live.

The video above was filmed by Mr Hood on a previous occasion.

In July, a 7ft shark was spotted swimming inches from the shore of a British beach.

The shark was seen feeding on plankton at Chesil beach in Dorset.

Fisherman filmed the incredible moment from Weymouth Angling Centre and said in the video: "It's 11am, Chesil beach, and there's a shark, a big shark, basically on the beach.

"I've never seen anything like that in my life. What is that? Porbeagle?

"We've got ground bait in the water and that would be a fish of a life-time off the shore but we haven't got the right rod today."

His companion, Ben, added: "Twenty years fishing Chesil and that is a big shark."

The video was then uploaded on to Weymouth Angling Centre's  Facebook  page where people believed it is a young basking shark - Britain's biggest and harmless fish.

It's believed the young basking shark swimming up and down the shoreline to feed on plankton.
