Two men have been arrested after police found a huge £2m cannabis farm near Strangeways prision.
Hundreds of plants were discovered growing over a number of floors of a building on Lord Street during a police raid on Wednesday morning.
Police described the set-up as a 'sophisticated' operation.
Officers from North Intelligence Unit and Serious and Organised Crime Group led the raids
Two men, in their 30s and 40s, have been arrested on suspicion of drugs and firearms offences.
Sgt Daniel Cullum of GMP’s City of Manchester Division said: "This morning’s action has seen us disrupt the drugs supply chain and prevent a very large quantity of cannabis reaching the streets.
"Drugs blight communities and ruin lives. Their proceeds are used to further the aims of violent criminal gangs who do not care about the misery they inflict.
"Today’s operation would not have been possible without the local community, whom we thank for their cooperation."
