A wild python weighing over 44lbs was caught strangling a pet puppy to death in the middle of the night.
Workers heard the desperate yelps from the pooch while they were working the night shift at a workshop in Bukit Beruntung, Malaysia.
Shop owner Sugiendan Thevar, 34, was alerted and rushed to the shop to find his beloved puppy being suffocated by the reptile, which was coiled tightly round the dog's body.
Sugiendan said he tried to intervene but the python was too aggressive so he decided to call for help.
He told local media Astro Awani: "I tried to catch but the python acted aggressively, and I contacted the 999 emergency line before members of the Malaysian Civil Defense Force arrived."
Sadly, the dog had already died by the time they arrived but Sugiendan had managed to trap the giant reptile under a metal container.
The shop owner added: "The snake cannot escape because the container space is narrow.
"I feel relieved that the dangerous reptile has been captured, but the fact that my puppy has died is also very hard to get over."
Rescuers spent more than 90 minutes catching the 13ft long python which weighed more than 44lbs.
Corporal Mohd Firdaus, who was in charge of capturing the python, said: 'We tried as quickly as we could to rescue the puppy, but it is never easy when the snake is so aggressive.
"This snake was brought back to the Hulu Selangor Civil Defense Department before being released into a forest far from the settlement."
