Huesca earn first win of season after 13 matches

Promoted Huesca finally won their first match of the Liga season at the 13th attempt on Saturday as they beat Alaves 1-0 at home.

Winger Javier Ontiveros got the winner in the 66th minute, curling a shot into the far corner and then breaking into tears, explaining afterwards that he had dedicated the goal to his grandmother who is seriously ill with COVID-19.

Huesca had two efforts by Japanese forward Shinji Okazaki ruled out for a foul and an offside either side of halftime, while Alaves defender Ely had the ball in the net but it was ruled out shortly before Ontiveros broke the deadlock.

Huesca were cruelly denied a first win last week when they gave away two late goals to draw 3-3 with Granada and savoured their first victory since returning to the top flight this term.

The win meant only two teams in Europe's top five leagues are still without victories this season, Sheffield United in England and Schalke 04 in Germany.

It lifted Huesca one place off the bottom into 19th spot on 11 points from 13 games, level with basement side Osasuna, who have played 12, and Levante who are 18th after 11 matches.

Elsewhere, Sevilla earned a 1-0 win at Getafe while Valencia struck late to grab a 2-2 draw at home to Athletic Bilbao.
