Hue Jackson wants another shot at being a head coach

Hue Jackson, formerly of the Cincinnati Bengals, wants to get back in the head-coaching game.

Jackson was last seen in Cincinnati but hasn’t landed a job anywhere this offseason. That’s not too surprising after his stint in Cleveland produced a 3-36-1 record before the organization moved on and immediately started showing signs of life on the field.

But Jackson has made it clear he would like another chance, as he told WFNZ 102.5 FM (h/t Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk):

“Oh, yeah, I mean I think I can. I mean, just because the situation in Cleveland [didn’t work out] doesn’t mean that you can’t coach. There’s a lot of great coaches who came before me that coached there and went on and did great things…I’ve said this before, I think during those times, it was probably some of the best coaching I did contrary to what people think, because you’re always doing anything and everything you can to find a way to win.”

It’s a big hill for Jackson to climb at this point. After he split with Cleveland, Marvin Lewis and the Bengals threw him a gig to finish out the season. The front office then gave him an interview during the head coach hunt, though it seemed like nothing more than a courtesy. Jackson didn’t get a job in Arizona despite interviewing for the offensive coordinator spot there.

While some of Jackson’s results in Cincinnati were admirable, it’s clear the Bengals had a shot at him but went elsewhere. The rest of the NFL has as well, even if Jackson still says he has something to offer.
