Hudson-Odoi, Azpilicueta, Barkley - eight Chelsea players who must get minutes against Barnsley

One thing is guaranteed for Wednesday evening's Carabao Cup game against Barnsley at Stamford Bridge: Frank Lampard will make changes.

Predicting them is a complete different challenge but considering the minutes played (or not) by the squad in the opening two Premier League fixtures, there are some clear candidates for inclusion from the start.

Football.london runs the rule over eight players who should be involved.

Willy Caballero

This one is a guarantee because Frank Lampard confirmed it after yesterday's defeat to Liverpool. "I can say now that Willy Caballero will play and that was always my feeling that he will play in that game even before today," Lampard said after the defeat to Liverpool when Kepa gifted Sadio Mane his second goal.

If Edouard Mendy, an imminent arrival from Rennes, is not available for Wet Brom on Saturday, you would also expect the veteran Argentine to start at The Hawthorns too.

Cesar Azpilicueta

The club captain has had five minutes in the opening two league games and will start in place of Reece James here. He is likely to get plenty of games as the season progresses but he is no longer a guaranteed starter in the biggest games.

Fikayo Tomori

The academy graduate did well off the bench in difficult circumstances yesterday and deserves a shot from the start to prove why he should stay and fight for opportunities rather than head out on loan.

Toni Rudiger

Having not even made the bench against Liverpool, expect some action for the German against Barnsley. If not then it may be time to question his future at the club. “We have five centre-halves at the club and I can't pick a squad that has three of them on the bench,” Lampard said yesterday. "That is the way it is, I have to pick a squad via training and situations and that was the selection today.”

Ross Barkley

The England midfielder finished last season well and looked sharp off the bench against Brighton. Expect him to start on Wednesday.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek

In need of minutes to sharpen up after so long out. Failed to make the bench against Liverpool after struggling from the start at Brighton. Some patience is required but this is a ideal game for him to get some confidence.

Callum Hudson-Odoi

Similar to Loftus-Cheek, even if it looks like there are fewer players above him in the pecking order out wide.

Tammy Abraham

We are yet to see Olivier Giroud but the fact Abraham came off the bench in both league games suggests he will be second in the depth chart for now. This is a chance to impress and he may need to take it.
