Hudson-Odoi absence from Chelsea squad explained as Lampard disagrees with Mourinho title claim

Here is the Chelsea morning digest for Monday, November 30.

Why Hudson-Odoi wasn't in Chelsea's squad for Spurs clash

Callum Hudson-Odoi was the surprise omission from the Chelsea match-day against Tottenham after a fine midweek showing against Rennes in the Champions League.

The 20-year-old opened the scoring against the Ligue 1 side but was omitted from the 18-man squad against Spurs because of Christian Pulisic’s return from injury.

The American international has struggled with a series of knocks through the early stages of the season, but is considered one of the Blues’ more influential players.

Pulisic was eventually substituted on in the 74th minute of the 0-0 draw with Spurs, replacing Timo Werner.

Hudson-Odoi will hope to feature when the Blues take on Sevilla in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

Lampard disagrees with Mourinho title claim

Frank Lampard has disagreed with his former manager Jose Mourinho when it comes to Tottenham’s title credentials.

The Portuguese dismissed claims Spurs could be considered title favourites in the wake of their 0-0 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The result left Tottenham top of the Premier League table on 21 points along with Liverpool in second. The Blues sit two points behind in third.

Ahead of the game, Mourinho was also quick to play down Spurs' title chances while adding Chelsea should be competing for top spot. And that first claim is something Lampard disagrees with.

"It’s Jose’s call to say it as he sees it from his end, but from the outside they are top of the league, it’s very close at the top," he said.

"If we’re contenders then they have to be contenders. If you’ve got Harry Kane and Son in your team – Son has got nine goals, Harry’s got seven, they keep clean sheets well because of the organisation of their team – they would expect to be in the race.

"They have invested heavily – they’ve got people like Gareth Bale sitting on the bench, Dele Alli’s not here. There is a strong squad there. So I think we are all competing, but Jose can say it as he sees it."

Chelsea player ratings as Zouma impresses

Chelsea went head-to-head with Spurs at Stamford Bridge on Sunday and were forced to share the points with their London rivals.

Oliver Harbord has given his player ratings from the goalless draw, and there are big scores for defensive partnership of Kurt Zouma and Thiago Silva.

French midfielder N’Golo Kante also impressed, but there was less desirable marks for summer signings Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner.

These are the games when Lampard will look to the likes of Ziyech and Werner to provide the difference but the duo were unable to provide the much-coveted breakthrough.
