Huddersfield vs West Brom screened live in Argentina as Leeds United stand on verge of promotion

It’s not just Leeds United fans in the UK who will be watching events in Huddersfield unfold with interest this evening.

Leeds supporters – and no doubt the club’s players too – will be watching Friday’s sole Championship game with a keen eye, knowing it could well lead to their long-awaited promotion.

Huddersfield Town host second-placed West Brom this evening, and anything less than a win for the Baggies would confirm the Whites’ promotion, and finally end their 16-year exile from the Premier League.

Leeds fans across the country will have their eyes glued to their TVs as a return to the top flight edges ever closer – and there will be plenty of interested spectators over in South America too.

United have garnered a sizeable following in Argentina since Marcelo Bielsa took over as manager, with a number of their games televised in the country as they’ve followed the former international manager’s progress.

And, in what has been described as an “unprecedented” move in Bielsa’s home country, a Championship game that doesn’t feature Leeds will be screened live.

ESPN in Argentina have confirmed they will be showing tonight’s clash between Huddersfield and West Brom, knowing that Bielsa’s side could achieve their mission without even kicking a ball.

Should the Baggies not slip up this evening though, Leeds could still have their promotion confirmed in the next 24 hours, with third-placed Brentford in action tomorrow lunchtime.

The Bees travel to Stoke City on Saturday, knowing they have to win both of their remaining games to stand any chance of catching United at the top of the table.

Even if Brentford were to win this weekend, Leeds will still have the chance to wrap things up on Sunday when they take on Derby County.

Should neither Huddersfield or Stoke be able to do them a favour, they will need just a point from either of their remaining games against the Rams or Charlton to secure their place back in the Premier League.
