Huddersfield vs Manchester United: 'Nothing' Gary Neville likes about 'awful' Red Devils after dismal display

Gary Neville has said that there is “nothing” that he likes about Manchester United’s current team, claiming they have “switched off” since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s appointment.

United’s hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League were ended with a 1-1 draw against relegated Huddersfield Town at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Isaac Mbenza’s goal on the hour mark cancelled out Scott McTominay’s opener and ultimately helped Huddersfield to avoid a record ninth consecutive league defeat.

United, meanwhile, have failed to win in nine of their last 11 games - a run of form which largely overlaps with Solskjaer's permanent appointment at the end of March.

“There’s nothing about this United team I like at all,” Neville said on Sky Sports. “They’re just awful. They’re a despondent group of people.

“This is not a team. The more I watch this it’s not a team. Do you know what it reminds me of? It reminds me of the Tottenham team that Mauricio Pochettino picked up.

“When it had [Emmanuel] Adebayor, [Younes] Kaboul, [Vlad] Chiriches, [Etienne] Capoue in midfield. A group of players that looked like individuals, nothing there, no real spirit.

“He dismantled it piece by piece and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to dismantle this piece by piece.

Neville called on United to appoint an experienced sporting director to help Solskjaer rebuild the squad. Earlier this week, it was revealed that Rio Ferdinand is in the running for the role.

“Solskjaer is smiling at them they’re that bad,” he added. “Manchester United’s away support will never stop singing but this group of players have drained the energy out of them.

"Ordinarily at this point in time you would say this is a real test for these Manchester United players, we will find out about them. But we already know.

"Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has got the job and they’ve just switched off haven’t they? They’ve just switched off simple as that. There can be no other explanation."
