Huddersfield Town target rising Arsenal star ahead of Bristol City attacker Sammie Szmodics

Huddersfield Town are eyeing up a move for Arsenal starlet Emile Smith-Rowe.

The Terriers are keen to strengthen their options in the final third of the pitch and have previously shown strong interest in taking Bristol City's Sammie Szmodics on loan for the second half of the season.

Yet Smith-Rowe is now their number one target following Rhian Brewster's move from Liverpool to Swansea City.

Huddersfield, along with Bristol City themselves, had previously been keen on Brewster before his move to South Wales.

Whilst the Terriers still view Szmodics as an option, they currently prioritising a move for the versatile Arsenal starlet, who is set to leave the Emirates on loan in January.

However, there is plenty of interest in Smith-Rowe, so a move to Huddersfield is not guaranteed, which would then reopen the likelihood of them bringing Szmodics to The John Smith's Stadium.

The Robins are prepared to let Szmodics leave on loan this month, with the 24-year-old having found first-team football limited since his move from Colchester United in the summer.

Szmodics has made just four appearances for the Robins this season and has not featured since December 14's defeat to Blackburn Rovers.

Hull City and Ipswich Town are also interested in the player, with the Robins having beaten Hull to his signature in the summer.

Yet Hull are more interested in loaning Szmodics until the end of the season and then signing the player on a permanent basis, which is not a deal City are interested in.

Ipswich have shown interest in Szmodics, but that would mean the player dropping down to League One rather than staying in the Championship.
