Huddersfield Town injury list ahead of Leeds United clash with several key players set to miss out

Marcelo Bielsa has to think about rejigging his Leeds United line-up for next weekend’s trip to Huddersfield Town, with Kalvin Phillips serving a one-match suspension.

The defensive midfielder received his fifth yellow card of the season in Saturday’s 4-0 victory over Middlesbrough, will be moved up into midfield.

But his opposite number Danny Cowley has more of a selection headache with up to five players out of action for the visit of Leeds.

The Terriers suffered a heavy defeat on Saturday, losing 5-2 away at Bristol City, as the absences in their defensive unit looked to have taken their toll.

Here's a look at their current injury list...

Danny Simpson

It’s touch and go with regards to the fitness of the Terriers veteran right-back, who has missed their last three games with a hip injury.

"We hope so," responded Cowley, when asked if the former Manchester United man would return for Saturday’s Yorkshire derby.  "We are hopeful that he will do.”

Simpson, a Premier League title winner with Leicester City, joined Huddersfield on a free transfer in the summer having seen out his contract at the King Power.

Jaden Brown

Cowley has something of a selection headache with regards to both full backs, with left-back Jaden Brown out alongside Simpson.

The 20-year-old impressed as Huddersfield went on a good run of form following the Cowleys appointment, but he’s been sidelined with an ankle injury for the past month.

Having ruptured his tensor fascia latae, Cowley hopes to have him back in December but Saturday could come too soon.

Tommy Elphick

The centre-half’s absence makes it three of Huddersfield’s first-choice back four that have been out of action in recent weeks.

The Football League veteran joined in the summer and slotted straight in, but is facing a nine-month injury lay-off. He suffered medial ligament damage after being on the receiving end of a  high tackle from Preston’s Ryan Ledson.

Fraizer Campbell

The striker has started 10 of Huddersfield’s games so far this season, registering two goals and two assists, but he was forced off at Ashton Gate with what looked to be a hip problem.

It remains to be seen whether he’ll make it back in time for Huddersfield’s next outing. If not, it’s likely that their top scorer Karlan Grant (11 goals) would be moved into a centre-forward position rather than the wide attacking role that he’s occupied of late.

Trevoh Chalobah

The 20-year-old defensive midfielder will miss this clash after his straight red card against Swansea.

The Chelsea loanee was much missed as Huddersfield lost 5-2 to Bristol City on the weekend, and will remain out here as he serves the second of his three-match suspension.
