Huddersfield Town facing injury crisis as Leeds United roll into town

Huddersfield Town face something of a defensive injury crisis ahead of their West Yorkshire derby showdown with Leeds United at the John Smith's Stadium on Saturday lunchtime.

United, who have been beaten in their last three meetings with the Terriers, will make the short hop to Huddersfield looking to stretch their winning run to six matches.

While form is often claimed to go out of the window on derby day, Marcelo Bielsa's team will fancy their chances of recording another three-point haul against a Terriers team, who not only find themselves at the wrong end of the Championship table, but in the middle of an injury crisis in defence.

Ahead of Saturday early kick-off, which will get underway at 12.30pm, Huddersfield, who were beaten 5-2 by Lee Johnson's Bristol City last weekend, face a whole host of defensive injuries, with centre-back Tommy Elphick ruled out for the remainder of the campaign and doubts currently being cast over right-back Danny Simpson and left-back Jaden Brown, who are both set to face late fitness tests.

Should Simpson, who has made a real impression at the John Smith's Stadium since signing on a free transfer at the back end of September, and Brown be ruled unavailable, Huddersfield could face real trouble, as they lack sufficient cover in both full-back areas.

Kosovo international Florent Hadergjonai and Dutchman Terrence Kongolo could both slot in at right-back and left-back respectively, but they have proven to be more useful in different positions in recent weeks, playing on the wing and in central midfield, respectively.

Striker Fraizer Campbell is also a doubt for Danny Cowley's team, with the former Hull City man also facing a late fitness test after being forced off after just five minutes at Ashton Gate last Saturday.

Elsewhere, the Terriers, unbeaten in their last seven home games, will be without midfield enforcer Trevoh Chalobah, who will sit out the second game of a three-match ban following his sending off for a headbutt against Swansea City in their last home outing.
