Huddersfield Town distance themselves from Dion Sanderson after Wolves 'grant him permission to leave'

Huddersfield Town have distanced themselves from Sunderland target Dion Sanderson, according to reports.

The Terriers were linked with a move for the 21-year-old again this summer and the young defender has reportedly been told he can leave Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Daily Mail claims Sunderland are set to offer £2million for the versatile defender but face competition from the Championship for his services.

Sanderson scooped up the award for the Sunderland AFC Supporters’ young player of the year and is a fan favourite on Wearside.

His stellar performances have attracted interest from the likes of Stoke City, Sheffield United, Birmingham City, Newcastle United and Crystal Palace.

Despite previous claims that Huddersfield were interested in the youngster, Yorkshire Live reported: "Whilst Town are in the market for a left-back, as confirmed by the chairman in his interview with Radio Leeds, Yorkshire Live understands that the first choice remains Josh Ruffels.

"Hodgkinson has acknowledged the club might be interested in dipping back into the market for a centre-back later in the window but we understand the link to Sanderson is a remnant of old reports rather than an accurate reflection of the club's present stance.

"Despite claims from elsewhere, though, it is currently unlikely Town will be part of that pack pursuing Sanderson's signature."
