Leeds United appear to have been issued a blow in the transfer market with West Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town reportedly winning the race for Forest Green winger Reece Brown.
The 23-year-old excelled in League Two last season, scoring 11 goals and registering 15 assists to help his side reach the playoffs, and his services are highly sought after as he approaches the end of his contract.
Brown's deal with the League Two outfit expires at the end of this month and Football Insider reports Huddersfield have agreed to pay a compensation fee of £100,000 to avoid going to a tribunal.
That fee is significantly less than the true value of the skillful attacker but his contract situation has allowed Leeds' Championship rivals to secure a bargain.
It would be a significant blow for Leeds to miss out on the services of Brown, having already seen long-term target Daniel James seal a move from Swansea City to Manchester United after the collapse of his move to Elland Road in January.
Both Leeds and Huddersfield have earmarked the attacking areas of their squad as a position that needs improving ahead of the forthcoming season, as Marcelo Bielsa's side look to end their long wait for a return to the Premier League and Jan Siewert's Terriers aim to return to the top-flight at their first attempt.
