Huddersfield Town chief Carlos Corberan keen on sealing loan deals for Leeds United duo

Former Leeds United Under-23s boss Carlos Corberan is planning on raiding his former club this summer to bolster his Huddersfield Town ranks ahead of the start of the new Championship campaign.

The Spaniard, who made the switch across West Yorkshire last month, succeeding former manager Danny Cowley after his brief spell in charge, is keen on luring both Pascal Struijk and Robbie Gotts to the John Smith's Stadium.

That is according to a report by The Sun, who claim that Gotts is close to sealing a loan switch to the Terriers, whilst the club are keen on adding Struijk to their ranks.

These claims will come as little surprise to anyone, with Corberan, only a few days ago, refusing to rule out the prospect of taking some of Leeds' younger players on loan for the 2020/21 campaign.

At his first press conference as Huddersfield boss on Friday, the former Whites Under-23s chief explained: “We don’t have this type of conversation.

“In this period of time, every club is focused on the market and in the market some opportunities can arrive from Leeds, other opportunities can arrive from League One and other opportunities are going to come from out of England.

“We are going to be open just analysing every situation we have to make and, for me, this is one of the keys to success this year.

“We will try to make the best decisions and that is why we are going to take a lot of time with the sporting director and the people working with him, trying to analyse, very well, the opportunities we have in the market and make this squad strong.”

Gotts, who can operate as either at right-back or central-midfielder, made just two appearances for Leeds during the 2019/20 Championship title-winning season, which suggests that he may not yet be ready to make the step-up to the Premier League.

With that in mind, a loan switch to a Championship club, who are more likely to guarantee him regular first-team football, could be just what Gotts needs, especially when he would be working alongside a familiar face in Corberan.

On the flip side, though, it is hard to see Leeds sending Struijk out on loan due to their shortage of options at centre-back at this moment in time.

The young Dutchman featured in all three of Leeds' final games of the 2019/20 season and made a strong impression, which will have done no harm to his first-team prospects ahead of the new season.

At the moment, it is unlikely that the Whites would sanction a loan move for the 21-year-old unless they can draft in an extra body at centre-back - something that the club are actively looking to do.
