Huddersfield relegated from the Premier League after defeat at Crystal Palace

Huddersfield Town have been relegated from the Premier League after a defeat to Crystal Palace.

Luka Milivojevic and Patrick van Aanholt scored in the second half but it was wins for Burnley and Southampton which sealed their fate.

However, relegated was all but sealed by Christmas when they were left five points adrift at the bottom of the table.

They had to wait until October for their first Premier League win, 11 games into the campaign, but it was the lack of goals that ultimately cost the Yorkshire outfit.

Huddersfield have scored just 18 times in their 32 games, which is by some distance the worst goal tally in the league behind Cardiff (27).

David Wagner, who had guided Huddersfield to survival in their maiden campaign in the Premier League, left by mutual consent in January with the club eight points from safety.

But his replacement, fellow German Jan Siewert, has won just one game since taking over in January - a 1-0 victory over Wolves - and with six games to go they can now plan for life in the Championship.

Fulham could soon join them, with caretaker manager Scott Parker handed a near-impossible task after Claudio Ranieri was sacked.

The Cottagers are 13 points off 17th-place Burnley and must win all six of their last games to have any hope of pulling off the great escape.
