'Huddersfield promote us and Derby guard of honour' - Leeds United fans send promotion message

Leeds United's hopes of sealing promotion to the Premier League took a massive step forward after a 1-0 win over Barnsley.

Barnsley defender Michael Sollbauer's own goal in the first half was enough for all three points in what was a cagey affair at Elland Road.

Whites boss Marcelo Bielsa will be delighted with a victory which means his side only require a point to be mathematically promoted to the top flight.

Leeds are now on 87 points, five clear of second placed West Brom and six ahead of third-placed Brentford.

And Leeds supporters took to social media after the game to voice their excitement about the result.

Anything less than a win for West Brom on Friday when they travel to Huddersfield would see Leeds promoted back to the Premier League.

Speaking after the game, Bielsa reflected on his side's performance against struggling Barnsley.

"Even if in the first half we didn’t have a big impact we could control the match to create some chances," he said in his post-match press conference.

"In the second half we couldn’t control the match. It was difficult for us to defend. Team in attack had a lot of players that can unbalance the match.

"In the match progressed tghey added more offensive players and removed defensive players. We organised ourselves to resolve the adaptation we had to resolve.

"Difficult for us to defend well and we didn’t attack well in particular."
