Huddersfield man makes Nottingham Forest admission as he reflects on defeat

Huddersfield Town defender Duane Holmes says Nottingham Forest are in a false position in the Championship table.

The Reds picked up their first win of the season with a 2-0 success over the Terriers at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Goals from Lewis Grabban and a Lee Nicholls own goal ensured that Forest would come away from the game with all three points, just days after the departure of manager Chris Hughton.

Forest have had a disappointing start to the season which sees them at the bottom of the Championship table, and just one point from their opening seven games of the campaign saw Hughton pay the price.

Following the game, Holmes said he ‘wasn’t surprised’ by Forest’s performance.

“They’re a lot better than the table suggests,” he told HHTV after the game.

“They’re a squad full of good players, they have been for a while, and obviously there might be a little bit of a hangover from last season, they didn’t end their season well.

“It’s hard to pick yourself back up from that, but it’s obviously difficult when the manager’s just been sacked, and the players have a spring in their step and want to prove themselves.

“I’m not surprised by how well they played.”

While Holmes gave credit to Forest, he also insisted Huddersfield should have defended better for both goals.

“Credit to Forest – they came and defended well,” he added.

“It’s probably a carbon copy of how we played against Sheffield United, sat 5-4-1 and defended well and looked for the counter.

“The goals were really sloppy.

“The first one was a carbon copy of our attack that we should defend better.

“The second one we created ourselves, a little half press, we maybe tried and played where we shouldn’t, and we got caught out.”
