Hubby, in-laws booked for dowry harassment in Lucknow

LUCKNOW: A communication officer of UP 112 accused her husband and in-laws of torturing and assaulting her for dowry in Sushant Golf City (SGC) police station area on Saturday.

The complainant, Akanshka Mishra, was married in 2014. She alleged that her husband started beating her with belts and shoes a few days after the marriage for dowry.

SHO, SGC, Vijayendra Singh, said an FIR under the charges of dowry prohibition act, subjecting a woman to cruelty and voluntarily causing hurt was registered.

As per the complainant, she withstood the inhumane torture as she wanted to save her marriage and her family. “His parents also supported him during the domestic violence. In 2016, he beat me blue and black in Kanpur and I had sought help from Lal Bangla police outpost. But my husband didn’t mend his ways. He had taken all my ornaments in his possession. We have a 10-month-old daughter,” she said.

Narrating her ordeal, she said she returned to her parents’ house in Lucknow hoping her absence will make his heart grow fonder for her.

“But nothing changed. On the last Holi, he visited my house and I asked him to give back my ornaments and share the expenses of our daughter’s care. He started abusing me and attacked me. I dialed UP 112 but he managed to flee. Later, I went to our house in Kanpur, but my husband and his parents were not there,” she said.
