Hubbard Street Dance announces 2016-17 season

April 12--Hubbard Street Dance Chicago announced its 2016-17 season performances on Tuesday.

The fall series (Nov. 17-20) opens with world premieres from Alejandro Cerrudo and Brian Brooks, recently named the Harris Theater's first choreographer in residence. Completing the fall series program are two ensemble works: Jiri Kylian's "Sarabande" and "Falling Angels," set to a Steve Reich percussion composition.

The spring series (March 16-19) is dedicated to the work of the Spanish-born choreographer Nacho Duato. Hubbard Street will honor its two-decade relationship with Duato by presenting his choreographic debut "Jardi Tancat" and "Rassemblement," first performed by Hubbard Street in 1999. Appearing for the first time at the company will be "Multiplicity. Forms of Emptiness and Silence," a tribute to Bach, and "White Darkness," inspired by Duato's sister's battle with drug abuse.

In May, Hubbard Street will present a new series, focused specifically on the work of Chicago-based artists. New pieces will be presented by Robyn Mineko Williams and Julia Rhoads, the founding artistic director of Lucky Plush Productions. More programming will be announced at a later date.

The summer series (June 8-11) of returning favorites will begin the year-long celebration of the company's 40th year. Hubbard Street will revive founding artistic director Lou Contey's duet "Georgia," set to Willie Nelson's "Georgia on My Mind," and close out the season with Contey's full-company presentation of "The 40s." The company will also continue its 10-year partnership with Twyla Tharp, performing "The Golden Section," which features music by David Byrne from Talking Heads. The series also includes William Forsythe's full-company "One Flat Thing, reproduced," the solo piece "A Picture of You Falling" by Crystal Pite, and excerpts from Lucas Crandall's "Imprint," former Hubbard Street artistic director Jim Vincent's "Palladio" and Alejandro Cerrudo's "America Windows," inspired by the Chagall windows at the Art Institute of Chicago.

Hubbard Street Dance performs at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance in Millennium Park, 205 E. Randolph St.
