'Hub for anti-social behaviour' could become 58 new homes

Plans for 58 homes on land in Netherley that developers say is a "hub for antisocial behaviour" are with Liverpool Council.

Riverside Housing Group has put forward proposals that would see a mix of apartments and houses built across a site close to Childwall Valley Road.

The site, which was previously built on but has been empty for a number of years, borders Middlemass Hey, Brownbill Bank, Linden Road & Crispin Road.

Part of the site is designated as open space in Liverpool's Local Plan.

In documents submitted to the council, Riverside say the development will result in open space being retained and made of a better quality.

A report submitted with the application says: "Whilst part of the site is allocated as Open Space, it is considered that the proposals will enhance the open space through the development of the site for residential purposes and will significantly increase the usability and amenity of the site for existing and future residents within the locality in accordance with the Policy.

"Furthermore, a considerable area of public open space will be retained and enhanced as shown on the submitted landscaping drawing.

"In addition, trees and planting will help soften the buildings across the rest of the site and will provide a betterment to the existing poor quality open space."

The report later says that the land is underused and has become and eyesore and hotspot for antisocial behaviour

The report says: "The site is an underused, deteriorating, unsustainable eyesore and a hub for antisocial behaviour, which via appropriate redevelopment represents an important regeneration opportunity, replacing poor quality vacant land with good quality affordable homes, tree planting and other soft landscaping."

According to plans submitted to officers there will be eight one bedroom flats, 25 two bedroom homes and 25 three bedroom homes.
