CHANDIGARH: Those waiting for selection as postgraduate teachers (PGTs) in the Haryana education department Haryana for the past around two years may have to wait for some more time, as the Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) would readvertised around 3,800 posts in various subjects soon.
Information regarding the commission’s decision to readvertise PGT posts has been provided to the Punjab and Haryana high court by its law officer in pursuance to a writ petition. “Counsel for the state, on instructions from the legal officer of the HSSC, submits that it has been decided by the commission that appropriate notice shall be issued, to enable participation in the selection process, of candidates like petitioner who have attained eligibility after issuance of the advertisement in 2019,” the HC has recorded the HSSC’s stand on the issue while deciding a petition on the issue.
The matter had reached the HC in the wake of a petition filed by Dinesh Kadian, a native of Jhajjar district of Haryana. He had sought directions to issue a corrigendum qua advertisement number 13/2019 through which HSSC had advertised 3,864 posts of PGT in various subjects in Haryana, or to readvertise the said posts. His argument was that the selection process has not been initiated for such a long period and the petitioners in the interregnum have become eligible to participate in the selection process.
According to the petitioner, he wants to apply for the post of PGT advertised in August 2019 as he could not apply till date being unqualified. He had not passed the Haryana Teachers Eligibility Test (HTET). The selection process has remained in the initial stages of inviting applications and the last date was extended till March 2, 2020. Even thereafter, no action has been taken to proceed with the selection process and meanwhile, the petitioner passed the HTET in 2020. Thus, he may also be permitted to apply for the said selection process, his counsel argued.
Responding to that, the HSSC made it clear that a readvertisement would be issued soon to give opportunity to more candidates who had become eligible after the closure of this advertisement.
HC has closed the matter for being infructuous.
Wait gets longer
In September 2019, the HSSC had advertised several posts of PGT through its advertisement No. 13/2019 for selection of PGTs. While lakhs of aspirants for these jobs were waiting for the selection process to begin, a fresh decision of the commission to readvertise these posts has affected their chance of an early selection.
