Damien McCallion, Ireland’s national lead on the vaccine rollout, has said that people in their 20s can expect to be fully vaccinated come the end of September.
The update on this timeline comes after it was confirmed that more than 340,000 people received a dose last week - marking the biggest week so far.
HSE officials have said if supply holds up, they expect to give 300,000 people a jab per week over the next three weeks.
Speaking on RTÉ's News at One, Mr McCallion said Ireland has great stability with supply at the moment and so this will be a very busy time for vaccinations.
He said those in their 20s will get their first dose in August and the second dose in September - while those aged 38 can now apply for their vaccine on the online portal.
Mr McCallion also recommended that people take their vaccination appointment when they are offered it so the rollout maintains momentum and that majority of people will be protected against the virus as soon as possible.
It was confirmed that 900,000 doses will be delivered to Ireland within the next two weeks.
Among those will be Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines which will land in Ireland between June 23 and 30.
On Tuesday, the vaccine portal will open up for people aged 37 from Tuesday, while those who are 36 can apply from Wednesday, and those aged 35 from Thursday, June 24.
According to the latest vaccine stats, 3,434,053 doses have been administered, which means more than 60% of the population have received at least one dose while 31% are fully vaccinated.
