HSE apologise for glitch that prevented people from booking Covid PCR tests

The Health Service Executive (HSE) has apologised for a glitch on its website that prevented people from booking a Covid-19 PCR test on Wednesday.

Those who tried to book a PCR test on Wednesday could select an available appointment slot but were unable to confirm the test on the website.

Instead of receiving confirmation of the test time, they were brought to an error code message displayed on the page.

Others experienced problems with the automated text message code, which is required to confirm attendance at the appointment. Some finally received the code hours later, making it invalid as the appointment page had timed out.

One person took to Twitter to express their frustration saying: "Having such a nightmare trying to get a HSE PCR test. Stayed up til midnight to get a slot. They send a code to your phone to book the appointment but that only came through this morning and now it won't accept it or let me apply for a new code? Anyone got any ideas?"

Another said: "Why is it impossible to book a Covid19 PCR Test online? The HSE online booking system is NOT sending the 6 digit authorisation code to a contact phone number or email address. Blocked from proceeding. I Hope it's sorted ASAP"

The HSE has apologised for the system error and has now identified and fixed the problem.

In a statement on the HSE's Twitter page, it said: "A technical issue meant that there was difficulty in trying to book a PCR test this morning. The issue is now resolved & the online system is operating normally. If you didn't receive a verification code, please rebook your appointment. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."
