HSBC confirm new location for call centre in Swansea

Banking giant HSBC has confirmed a new location for its call centre operation in Swansea.

Following the pandemic and the bank's decision last year to exit its offices at Ty Dyffryn, it has agreed to take space at the nearby Matrix One office building.

With its 800 call centre staff currently all working remotely, a permanent hybrid model will be introduced when the bank moves into its new offices from November.

This is expected to see around 180 staff working there at any given time, with the rest working from home.

The call centre did employ 1,000, but following a review of HSBC's entire UK operation last year, it has now been reduced to around 800.

As a result of the move the new premises will have less space that the near 50,000 sq ft at Ty Dyffryn, for which the lease expired in March. However, HSBC said they will be of a higher quality with more collaborative space for staff.

It has entered into an initial five year lease with the building's owner.

A HSBC UK spokesperson said: "We are pleased to announce that we have reached a formal agreement that will see HSBC UK relocate into the Matrix One building in Swansea, following a decision to leave Ty Dyffyn late last year.

"With certain changes that need to be made and the necessary installation of technical equipment and furniture, we will be working towards moving in and starting work in November, continuing our history of having a base in Swansea.”
