HRH Princess Royal in Perth to hand out degrees and diplomas to Perth College UHI graduates

Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal will be in Perth this week to hand out degrees and diplomas to hard-working students.

As chancellor of the University of the Highlands and Islands, HRH The Princess Royal will personally congratulate over 300 Perth graduates at Perth College UHI’s graduation ceremony on Thursday, October 3.

Dr Margaret Cook, the college’s principal, said: “This is a memorable day, celebrating our higher education students’ success in their studies, and marking the end of a very successful chapter of their lives, equipping them to move on to exciting future chapters.

“We work hard to ensure our students leave us with memories of an enjoyable experience and friends made along the way, many friendship made here will last a lifetime.

“We are all very proud of our graduates’ achievements and I wish them all congratulations and good luck for the future.”

The keynote speaker will be Cameron McNeish, an award-winning writer and television presenter whose fields of interest include mountaineering, hillwalking, backpacking, cycle touring, mountain biking and Scots and Irish traditional music.

At the ceremony on Thursday, a number of graduates who have won awards for exceptional achievement will be honoured at the end of the ceremony where they will be presented with special prizes for their efforts.

Lewis Melloy will pick up the University of the Highlands and Islands undergraduate student of the year 2019 for Perth College UHI.

A BSc (Hons) sport and fitness student, Lewis was nominated for his positive contribution to the college, the department, his course development and for the support he gave his peers along the way.

The Perth College UHI alumnus of the year 2019 award will be posthumously awarded to Perthshire chef Andrew Fairlie, who died at the beginning of this year.

His wife Kate Fairlie will pick up the award on Andrew’s behalf.

Thursday’s graduation ceremony will be broadcast live on Perth College UHI’s website.
