Howth Harbour to get a seabin in an effort to reduce plastic waste

Howth Harbour is set to get its very own seabin designed to collect plastic waste from the ocean.

The seabin will become operational on the Passenger Vessel Ferry Pontoon next Wednesday as part of the “Remove Plastic Waste Initiative” for the seaside town.

Local man Rowan Byrne launched the initiative and it was made possible through crowdfunding along with sponsorship from his employer and the support of the harbour master at Howth, Harold McLoughlin.

Mr McLoughlin said: “Everyone knows just how important the sea and the marine life in there is to us.

“We hope this Seabin will have a big impact on the amount of rubbish floating around in the local area.”

Mr Byrne will place the seabin in the harbour in the coming days and it will then be maintained and emptied by the Howth Harbour authorities.
