Howie Roseman, Joe Douglas feel “really good’ about the DB’s on Eagles roster

At one point during the 2018 NFL season, the Eagles had over a dozen different players get reps playing the cornerback position, as the franchise dealt with attrition in the secondary. That trial by fire was a great thing for the Eagles young secondary, and the team executives believe the struggles of 2018 could allow this group to become a strength on the defense. With Jalen Mills, Avonte Maddox, Sidney Jones, Cre’Von LeBlanc, Rasul Douglas and Ronald Darby on the corner, the Eagles will either have an abundance of riches or a logjam of mediocrity that could cost the Birds a title.

Regardless of who starts on the outside and who starts in the slot, it appears that Eagles GM Howie Roseman and VP of player personnel Joe Douglas, love the group they have and are prepared to proceed as such.

The wildcard of the group could be Sidney Jones. Despite battling hamstring injuries last season that led to him giving up huge plays on the outside, the Eagles brass loves Jones.

Doug Pederson has an affinity for the versatile swiss army knife in Avonte Maddox, who can play outside, inside or at safety. LeBlanc is probably the most rugged and consistent out the group, but Sidney Jones could get the nod in the slot.

At the safety position, the Eagles are deep, with Malcolm Jenkins and Rodney McLeod as the starters and Andrew Sendejo as the third safety. Versatile and tough cornerback, Rasul Douglas could be an option at safety as well.
