A West Lothian GP surgery is vaccinating more over 80s this week.
Howden Health Centre in Livingston have over 150 patients in the 80 years-plus age group booked in for their first AstraZenaca Covid-19 immunisation at the surgery. They are also immunising some of their housebound patients.
The surgery anticipate that they will be able to start to offer the vaccine to patients in the 75-79 year age group in early February, closely followed by all patients who have been shielding.
A spokesperson for Howden Health Centre said: “Once again, this will depend on the supply of vaccine. We are aiming to have it administered a quickly as it arrives with us. Please do not call us, we will call you!
“For patients in the 70-74 year age group, NHS Lothian is arranging your immunisations, not the practice.
“This week you will have already started to receive letters with appointments for the mass vaccination centres in Lothian. These will also start in early February.
“The aim is to offer the vaccine to all patients in the most vulnerable groups by mid February.
“Lothian GP practices have agreed to take on a large part of this activity (75+, 80+ and shielding groups), but we are also busy with our routine and emergency care as well.
“The mass vaccination centres working in parallel will allow as many people to be immunised as quickly as possible.
“We must not forget there will be a second immunisation due within 12 weeks as well.”
