Howard walked Lake Burley Griffin both ways

When he was prime minister, John Howard was a dedicated walker around Lake Burley Griffin.

And, it seemed, he liked to walk this way ... and that.

With the National Capital Authority announcing this week it wants people to walk, run or cycle clockwise around the lake to help with social distancing during the coronavirus pandemic, we looked back in the archives to see how our most dedicated prime ministerial walker did it.

And anti-clockwise. Picture: Andrew Sheargold.

And it seems he was both a clockwiser and an anti-clockwiser, sometimes on the same day, when he cut short the bridge-to-bridge and hopped into a waiting car to get back to the Lodge.

Anyhoo, as you were.
