Howard Carter and Tutankhamun - a picture from the past
The British archaeologist Howard Carter and an Egyptian assistant examine the sarcophagus containing the body of the pharaoh Tutankhamun in the Valley of the Kings near Luxor, Egypt. The tomb of the young pharaoh of the 18th dynasty who ruled Egypt for a brief period had lain undisturbed since his death in the second millennium BC. Howard Carter meticulously documented the finds from the tomb in over 1,000 images to create one of the best archaeological photographic records Illustration: Photograph: Harry Burton/ Rue des Archives/ Getty
