How you report your lateral flow test to the Welsh Government and why you need to do it

As Covid cases continue in Wales and with few restrictions on events or socialising, thousands of people are using lateral flow tests as an extra line of defence against spreading the virus.

Tens of thousands of rapid lateral flow tests are taken each week in Wales, and with cases rising it's important to register the test regardless of the result.

The Welsh and UK Government's are calling on everyone to report these results after they have done a test.

In the last week, there were 189,550 lateral flows tests used in Wales bringing the total in 2021 up to 4.3 million - and these are just the reported ones.

When should I report a lateral flow test?

According to the official guidance you should report the result of a lateral flow:

  • every time you use a rapid lateral flow test kit
  • as soon as possible after you get the result

You cannot report a result after more than 24 hours and you can only report one result at a time.

How do you report a lateral flow test?

If you are in Wales you report your lateral flow test the same as you would in England. The data will still be available for decision-makers here in Wales.

You can submit it via this website.

To use this service, you need:

  • The QR code or ID number printed on the test strip (the part of the kit that shows your result)
  • A mobile phone number so they can text you to confirm we’ve got your result

Why is it important to report your test?

Reporting results even if they are negative gives decision-makers more data into the state of the virus in Wales.

This means that if there is a flare-up in a particular area health authorities know about it sooner and can direct extra testing and resources to that place.

Need help to report a test?

If you cannot use the online service, call 119 (free from mobiles and landlines). Lines are open every day, 7am to 11pm. 119 provides support in 200 languages.
