How you drive could be damaging your love life

Brits are hindering their love lives by driving badly on dates, according to the automotive marketplace Auto Trader.

Research showed that whilst 46% of Brits admitted they believe you can tell a lot about a date’s personality from the brand of car they choose to drive, a desirable car brand will only get you so far, with three fifths (62%) believing how their date drives offers a more important insight into their personality.

Single Brits revealed the bad in-car behaviours that would make them give their date the boot, including road rage (28%), general bad driving (25%) and if their date didn’t give way to pedestrians and cyclists (18%).

Over a third (34%) admit they’d be put off by a potential partner if they had a messy car full of takeaways, in comparison to only 15% admitting they wouldn’t go on another date with someone with a dirty car.

Other big faux pas include belting out a song, with a quarter (25%) admitting they’d be put off by a date who sang loudly in the car, 35% admitted smoking or vaping in the car is a big no-go for them and one in five (19%) would cringe at a date putting their shoes on the dashboard.

To help Brits get on the road to romance and overcome these bad in-car behaviours, Auto Trader has teamed up with celebrity matchmaker, Paul Carrick Brunson, to create an in-car etiquette guide to help steer single Brits in right direction by giving them the top do’s and don’ts when sharing a car with a date.

Paul Carrick Brunson said: The in-car etiquette guide I have created with Auto Trader will give helpful pointers to overcome any in-car faux pas, putting the brakes on those bad in-car habits and giving single Brits the confidence to ‘carpool up’ and organise a memorable date.”

Erin Baker, Editorial Director at Auto Trader said: “Our research proves how many single Brits need help when sharing a car journey with a date. As Britain’s Biggest Matchmaker, we wanted to help people overcome their bad habits so they can impress their date and get carpooled up.”
