How you can spend the night like a Tudor Queen in Henry VIII's honeymoon suite

Fancy becoming a Tudor Queen for the day, or walking in the footsteps of King Henry VIII?

Thornbury Castle, every Bridgerton’s fan dream, was built to impress the most powerful men across the country - and five centuries later, the very same room where Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn slept is available to guests.

In 1535 the pair spent 10 nights at the castle and their bedchamber, King Henry VIII suite, with the original stone spiral steps used to access it still intact, 2Chill reports.

Found near Bristol, the castle has 27 carefully-restored bedchambers, all named after key figures from Tudor history.

Whether it is ‘De Percy’ or ‘De Clare’, the rooms boast a unique charm.

Located in the main wing of the castle, the deluxe rooms are decorated with traditional and distinctive castle features, many with four-poster beds and stone-carved fireplaces.

Adjacent to the Gloucestershire countryside, the outside is just as breath-taking, standing as tall as it did when it was first built and the castle is surrounded by 15 acres of Tudor walled gardens.

Following a multi-million-pound refurbishment programme in spring 2021, guests can experience a luxurious and sophisticated castle hotel stay as Thornbury Castle is the only Tudor castle in the UK which operates as a hotel and restaurant.

The restaurant offers plenty of modern and traditional British-inspired dishes with many of the ingredients grown in the castle’s own kitchen and herb gardens.

Visiting guests can also enjoy a variety of activities to conjure up the atmosphere of Tudor England.

Including bespoke historical tours, a walking garden tour, axe throwing, sword skills, archery, falconry, croquet on the lawn and even the opportunity to become a Tudor Queen for the day.

The beautiful 16th century building was originally constructed by Edward Stafford, the only man to rival the King’s wealth and status at that time.

It was a display of wealth and ambition that Henry did not take kindly to, and after Stafford was found guilty of treason, the King took control of the castle.

A brief, beloved retreat for Henry and his new bride, Anne Boleyn, Thornbury Castle has since collected centuries of British history.

If you’ve ever dreamed of living like royalty, this aristocratic hotel is a must visit.
