How you can see a Lancaster bomber take to the skies this summer

A Lancaster bomber is set to spread its wings this summer as part of a classic vehicle show.

The rare Second World War aircraft is one of only two of its kind that are still airworthy after most were scrapped after the war.

More than 7,000 Thumpers, as it was nicknamed, were built during the Second World War, some of which were used in Europe between 1942 and 1945.

The show will take place on Sunday, August 11 between 10am and 4pm, Derbyshire Live reports.

Ian Viles, chief executive of Erewash Partnership, said: "We are thrilled and honoured at the prospect of the historic Lancaster flying over the show.

"It will be an added attraction for what is a bumper family event."

Spectators will be able to see the plane during the Heritage and Classic Vehicle Show in Ilkeston Town Centre, though organisers say an exact time for the flypast will be announced on social media closer to the date.

The free annual event will feature around 400 classic cars, motorbikes and other vehicles, 100 more than last year.

Roads around the Market Place will be closed for the vehicle show and flyover.

The closures will be in place from 5.30am to 6.30pm on Sunday, August 11.
