How you can save nearly £1,000 by Christmas - but you'll have to start now

Many of us are left counting the pennies come January after the usual Christmas splurge.

Gifts, turkey and stuffing and other rich food doesn't come cheap and while we all intend on saving, it very rarely happens, does it?

Most of us will not remember to start saving until it's too late.

However, there's an easy way to boost your festive funds and if you follow a few easy steps, you could have £1,000 stashed away by December 25, reports the Liverpool Echo

But you'll have to start saving - now!

Thankfully, it only involves putting away a few pounds of loose change each week - so you shouldn’t even notice the money going out, according to  Apartment Therapy

The simple hack couldn’t be more simple - each week put aside £1 a day, working your up by a pound as each day passes, then start again as the week rolls around.

So on Sunday save £1, Monday £2, Tuesday £3, Wednesday £4, Thursday £5, Friday £6, Saturday £7 then back to £1 again on Sunday.

This will save you £28 a week and £112 a month. With 32 weeks until Christmas, if you start now, you can save £896 before the big day. If you’re in a relationship, you could even encourage your other half to do the same and double your savings.

Then come Christmas simply decide if you want to spend it all on presents - or book a holiday for the year ahead instead!
