How you can save £464 on the price of the exact same new iPhone 11

The latest iPhones are out - with the 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max all available to pre-order now.

You can get a triple lens cameras, a 6.5 inch screens and what Apple promises is the "toughest glass in a smartphone" as well as a longer battery life - but it will cost.

Prices rise as high as £1,499  for the handset alone - with even the "budget" version setting you back £729.

Of course, there are far cheaper phones, with a new iPhone 8 now costing 'just' £479 and some top-rated Android phones less still.

But if the 11 is what you've set your heart on, how do you make sure you don't pay more than you need to?

According to MoneySavingExpert.com , the cheapest way to get the iPhone 11 now with at least 4GB of data is on a 24 month contract with O2 via Mobiles.co.uk (part of Carphone Warehouse).

Total cost of the phone and contract comes in at £906 - or £37.75 a month spread over 2 years.

To buy the exact same phone direct from O2 with standalone Sim costs £464 more over two years.

The lowest up-front cost is £30 from going directly to O2, but that comes with a £55.82 a month contract seeing you shell out a massive £1,370 over 2 years.

Other ways to save

For those who are prepared to wait a bit, or be flexible on their handset, here are three other ways to save money on a new iPhone:

  • Wait : In the past, the best deals come 106 days after launch, according to comprehensive service PriceSpy - so if you can wait until late December or early January you could save a fair bit.
  • Spread the cost free : Paying for a handset up front, then going SIM-only, works out cheaper a lot of the time - but not many people have hundreds of pounds spare for a new handset. The good news is the iPhone Payments scheme lets you spread the cost over 20 months interest-free.
  • Only pay for the storage you need : You can pay £350 more to get a 512GB iPhone than a 64GB version - considering you can buy a 512GB SD card for £30 that's a lot. So don't buy more on-phone storage than you actually use.
