How you can help food banks near you feed the most vulnerable

Vital support for some of the most vulnerable in society is being put front and centre for millions of people across the UK thanks to a new partnership between InYourArea and Give Food.

InYourArea, the hyperlocal news and information platform with more than 3 million users, has launched the latest of its many initiatives focused on getting clear, accurate and useful information into communities during the coronavirus pandemic in the form of a new widget showing exactly what items thousands of local food banks are short of.

In co-operation with charity Give Food, which delivers to food banks nationwide, the widget will allow users to input their postcode and see precisely what provisions their nearest volunteer-run sites are short of.

Jason Cartwright, founder of Give Food, said: "Even before coronavirus became a problem food banks were experiencing unprecedented demand, and the recent situation has created a real crisis.

"We're proud to be able to help InYourArea augment their hyperlocal service to help their users to discover what food banks near to them are requesting."

The widget can also be embedded into other host sites and the hope is it will help those with others in mind to see exactly how they can be of assistance during these unprecedented times of need.

Tom Gibbon, Editor of InYourArea, said: "This is the latest example in a rapidly growing number of innovations and initiatives we have undertaken at InYourArea to help communities tackle the vast changes coronavirus is pushing upon all of us.

"I'm really pleased we've been able to help Give Food, and the UK's huge network of food banks, have a sizable platform to make sure shortages for those who need things the most are hopefully avoided."

You can click on the 'Make a donation' link which tells you the opening times of the food banks so you find the best time to donate.

If there is a food bank not featured in our widget, please contact  www.givefood.org.uk.
