How you can help Afghan refugees in Nottingham

With the unfolding situation in Afghanistan on all of our minds, many of us are wondering how we can help in some small way.

Host Nottingham is a charity which support refugees and asylum seekers in Nottingham. In light of the recent unrest in Afghanistan, they are appealing for people to donate unwanted clothes, particularly for women and children, to one of their clothes banks.

The charity have appealed on Twitter for donations, but have said the amount of enquiries are taking some time to work through. They are looking for clothes for men, women and children in a range of sizes, excluding XL.

All men's clothes need to be suitable for young men aged in their 20s-30s. The charity does not accept children’s school uniforms and ask that all donations are clean and in good condition. The charity do not have the facilities to dispose of clothing, so have asked that people contact them prior to donation to ensure clothes are suitable.

People can also offer a spare bedroom for an asylum seeker, or volunteer to accompany an asylum seeker to appointments and befriend them as they settle into life in the UK.

Here is how you can donate to the clothes bank or email hostaccompanying@gmail.com if you have further questions.
