How you can get involved in a new cafe bar venue opening in Cardiff next month

A new food and music venue is to open its doors near Victoria Park in Canton next month.

Motel Nights is being set up by an events team of the same name who've previously been behind regular club nights at the likes of city centre favourites such as 10 Feet Tall, Gwdihw and Clwb Ifor Bach - not to mention sold-out New Year's Eve bashes at Tramshed.

They've also been responsible for themed quizzes at Depot, an award-winning comedy club at Buffalo and a series of silent discos at the National Museum and Techniquest.

And now, as other venues are shutting their doors due to the downturn in trade resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic,  they're undertaking their boldest venture yet by building a 'café, bar and event space with bags of character', which is set to open on Paper Mill Road, not far from Dusty Knuckle Pizza, on Friday September 25.

The only problem is the owner needs to raise £5,000 to help get the project realised and has set up a Crowdfunder appeal in order to help hit that target and get all the necessary work done in time.

A deadline of the middle of next month has been set and, to encourage donations from the public, Motel Nights are offering different rewards in return for contributions  - from free coffee for two, novelty keyrings and branded T-shirts, to private parties at the venue and a wedding DJ package.

The money raised will be go towards equipment and furnishings, such a private booths, reception bar and disco ball bathroom.

"She may look a little rough around the edges right now but we promise she’ll look beautiful by the time we're done," said the venue's Facebook page.
