Britain has carried out its first airstrikes in Syria, hours after MPs – including 66 Labour – voted overwhelmingly to authorise military action.
On Wednesday, at the end of a day of a 10-hour-long debate in the House of Commons, MPs voted by 397 to 223 in favour of sending Tornado jets to seek out Isis targets in Syria.
A YouGov poll published on Wednesday showed declining public confidence in the case for airstrikes in Syria. Last week, 59 per cent of Britons backed airstrikes but now the figure has declined to 48 per cent – to five million people.
