How will Man City line up vs Norwich? Pep Guardiola faces John Stones decision

John Stones is expected to be back for Manchester City at Norwich City following a thigh injury.

But it remains to be seen if Pep Guardiola will throw the England centre-back straight back into the action against Norwich with Shakhtar Donetsk coming up in the Champions League next week.

Guardiola will have to carefully manage his defensive options following injury to Aymeric Laporte, which will keep the France defender out until the New Year.

City’s manager has spoken of his desire to sign Harry Maguire in the summer, and his decision to strengthen at right-back with Joao Cancelo - rather than replace Vincent Kompany - will now be put to the test, with Stones and Nicolas Otamendi his only two fit senior centre-backs until Laporte’s return.

City will, at least, be boosted by the return of Benjamin Mendy following his latest knee injury.

Gabriel Jesus is also expected to be back in contention after returning to training following a hamstring injury, which ruled the Brazil striker out of the games against Bournemouth and Brighton.

Man City predicted lineup

(4-3-3): Ederson; Walker, Otamendi, Fernandinho, Zinchenko; De Bruyne, Rodri, Silva; Bernardo, Aguero, Sterling
